Frozen veggies and other healthy food in containers stacked neatly in a freezer.

Fill Your Freezer with GOLO-Friendly Goodness

Freezing food is the name of the game when it comes to meal preparation. This time-saving technique increases convenience and decreases food waste.

Keep reading for some of our favorite advice for making your GOLO-approved foods last.

Lock Up Liquids

Soups, stews, and chilis freeze well. After cooking, divide the mixture into the servings indicated in the recipe. That way, you will have individual servings to pop into the microwave or heat on the stovetop.

Baked Goods

All GOLO baked goods freeze well. We recommend wrapping each muffin or slicing them individually before placing them into a larger container or freezer bag.

Pancakes and waffles freeze beautifully and are best frozen with parchment or wax paper between them so they don’t get stuck together.

Freeze Meal Components

Grab a 3- or 6-oz package of frozen, cooked chicken that can be defrosted quickly and tossed onto a salad or other dish. You can also freeze chopped veggies that can be added to eggs in the morning to round out your first GOLO meal of the day!

Cook a complete package of pasta (whole grain or whole wheat) and freeze it in ½ cup serving sizes. That is much easier than cooking ½-cup for a single meal.

Salvage Your Fruits and Veggies

When your vegetables are nearing the end of their freshness, toss them into a container or food storage bag and keep them in the freezer. When the bag is full, toss them into a pot covered with water. Add garlic, onion, and any spices you like, then let them simmer for a few hours. You can strain the veggies for stock/broth. Use an immersion blender to transform it into a creamy veggie soup.

The same can be done with fruit nearing the end of its freshness — portion it out and freeze for the base of an easy smoothie or a quick batch of Breakfast Banana Bars.

To prevent your fruit from sticking together, cut fruit into smaller pieces and place them on a baking sheet or plate. Once frozen, portion out and transfer to an airtight container or freezer bag.
