Stay strong this holiday season with tips and tunes from GOLO

How to make your holiday healthier and happier!

The holidays are truly the most wonderful time of the year. As we spend more time with family and friends — celebrating, eating and drinking more than usual — it’s important to find the balance between having a good time while staying dedicated to your weight loss journey.

The truth is, your approach doesn't have to be “all or nothing”. You don’t want to overindulge completely, but you also don’t need to deprive yourself. And you certainly don’t want to take on additional stress, which is why our team at GOLO has put together these tips to help you stay healthier and happier this holiday:

  • Be realistic — Instead of worrying about losing weight, set a goal of simply maintaining your current weight during the holidays.
  • Maintain your regular sleep schedule — Try not to stay up much later than usual wrapping gifts or writing your holiday cards. Sleep is very important for stress reduction and weight management.
  • Plan Ahead — If you are out for the day pack some healthy GOLO snacks so you don’t have to make a run to the food court.
  • Maintain your workout schedule — For example, if you typically exercise on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, find at least 20-minutes during those days and don’t give it up!
  • Stay active — Take a walk, dance, play with your children, enjoy some crafts, or if it’s snowing out, build a snowman!
  • Healthier treats as gifts — You don’t have to bake cookies for everyone. Seasoning blends, hot chocolate mix or granola make for great gifts.
  • Don’t skip meals — Going to a party at night? Eat your regular meals throughout the day. If you arrive starving to a party, you will end up eating more than you would if you had maintained your regular eating schedule.
  • Give yourself permission to indulge — The holidays come once a year so plan on enjoying yourself and don’t stress over it. You can do little things to maintain, then when the holidays are over, get reinvigorated and start the new year off strong!
  • Avoid frozen appetizers or premade cookies — Enjoy homemade treats and only eat what you really like most.
  • Limit Alcohol — In addition to added sugars and the like, alcohol also stimulates your appetite. Try to stick with 1-2 drinks during a party. If you’re drinking wine, instead of an 8 ounce glass, fill it with 4 ounces and sip at a slower pace.
  • Bring a GOLO-friendly dish (or two) — Not only will this help out the host, it also assures that there will be healthier options for you to eat!
  • Focus on the people, not the food — Holiday parties and functions are meant to spend time with your family and friends. Maximize the time with your loved ones and make memories for a lifetime!
  • Stay the course — If you overindulge at a party, get right back on track the next day and don’t skip meals! Eating regularly helps to keep your metabolism functioning properly.

Sing, dance and enjoy the music!

Whether you’re hosting a party, decorating, wrapping gifts, or cooking a delicious meal — nothing gets you in the mood for the holidays more than your favorite songs of the season! Our team at GOLO has put together a playlist of our holiday favorites to get you in the holiday spirit. How many of your personal favorites made our list?
